Keltbray has published its Sustainability Strategy 2022, covering the Group’s goals in supporting the United Nations’ (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to take urgent action to combat climate change and fight inequality and injustice

Keltbray, a leading UK specialist engineering business, today releases its Sustainability Strategy 2022. The strategy showcases Keltbray’s course of action to deliver on its purpose, ‘to redefine the way sustainable development is delivered’, focussing on three key areas which focus on eight of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The announcement of the strategy further supports Keltbray’s core purpose to redefine the way sustainable development is delivered, and will accelerate the Group’s plans to become a more sustainable and responsible business. It’s also a vital next step in driving the decarbonisation of Keltbray’s operations and services in line with our Science Based Target commitments to reduce CO² emissions, and achieve Net Zero status by 2040.

The Group’s Sustainability Team have identified eight of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that are of particular importance to the business and its stakeholders, and where it believes it can make the greatest positive and lasting difference:

Social sustainability

  • Good health
    • Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all
  • Quality education
    • Ensure inclusive and equitable education and promote lifelong learning for all
  • Gender equality
    • Promote gender equality
  • Reduced inequalities
    • Reduce inequality and make opportunities available to all

Environmental sustainability

  • Sustainable cities and communities
    • Support local communities
    • Make the workplace inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
  • Climate action
    • Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Economic sustainability

  • Decent work and economic growth
    • Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
  • Industry, innovation and infrastructure
    • Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable and inclusive industrialisation and foster innovation

Keltbray continues to be ambitious with its Social Value initiatives, and the smart KPIs outlined in our strategy implementation plans aim to expand on the excellent work the business has achieved to date.

Keltbray is committed to investing in sustainable innovation and had a strong sustainability performance in 2021, with 100% of its fixed locations now using renewable energy, and its industry-leading use of Earth Friendly Concrete (EFC) as a standard product as part of its service offering to customers.

Last year, Keltbray also became one of only a small number of contractors in the construction sector to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard as part of its goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.

Holly Price, Group Sustainability Director at Keltbray, said: “Our Strategy sets out our pledge to provide innovative built environment and infrastructure engineering solutions that generate value to our clients and allow them to achieve their own sustainability commitments, whilst recognising that we have our own part to play in paving the way to addressing global challenges within the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Our company purpose reflects our ambitions – sustainability runs through everything we do at Keltbray, and we align our sustainability and commercial targets to ensure our work is completed in the safest and most efficient manner, whilst addressing the social, economic and environmental needs of the business and our stakeholders.”

Darren James, Chief Executive Officer at Keltbray, said: “The launch of our 2022 Sustainability Strategy is a key step in our journey to becoming a more sustainable business. In 2020, we aligned our sustainability commitments with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, recognising the significant impact our industry has on the environment, economy and society. We fully understand our responsibility to deliver our projects and programmes in a way that leaves a lasting positive impact on our communities and the environment. Therefore, we have set ourselves clear targets to ensure we deliver on our purpose to ‘redefine the way sustainable development is delivered’.”
