Iain Thomson, Head of Distribution at KISL commented, elaborating on the nature of the relationship between ScottishPower and KISL “It’s a privilege and great honour to receive a such prestigious award. Our relationship with SP (ScottishPower) started some 12 years ago when we were awarded a place on the SPD (ScottishPower Distribution) Distribution Overhead Line (OHL) framework contract in 2012 allowing us to establish a modest foothold in the Scottish Borders and over the years building on this to establish ourselves as a supplier for SPT (ScottishPower Transmission) Transmission OHL.

Having recently secured a place on the 10-year Transmission framework on both substations & OHL, coupled with our existing frameworks for Distribution OHL, substation frameworks and the Low Carbon Technology (Looped Services) programme it gives us great confidence to invest locally in the supply chain and equally importantly in our own directly employed local labour.

We have invested c.£2m in training in the last 3 years with the development of our Wood pole and Transmission training centre in Bathgate and will now further invest in Substation and Live Low Voltage environments with a commitment to double our traineeship for blue- and white-collar workers. Our relationship with ScottishPower is a key reason why we chose Bathgate as our training school due to the high level of confidence we have in our continuing relationship.

We all have a duty and responsibility to deliver Net Zero and this recognition only encourages our commitment on this journey to further invest in Technology and continued sustainability measures to drive towards this goal.”
