12th September 2024- Keltbray Infrastructure Services Limited (KISL) is pleased to announce that it has received the Infrastructure Achievement of the Year Award at the National Rail Awards 2024, alongside our clients Network Rail.

Almost 1,100 people representing all parts of the railway industry convened at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on September 12 to celebrate excellence and innovation at the National Rail Awards 2024.

The winning LTS MK1 OLE Replacement project upgraded the London, Tilbury, and Southend (LTS) railway electrification to enhance OLE performance on the London to Southend routes. It included refurbishment to renew Wire Runs from Fenchurch Street to Barking, Hornchurch (FSS2 route), and Pitsea on the Tilbury Loop route.

KISL’s integrated self-delivery approach successfully completed the works. Our directly employed OLE technicians and specialist rail plant provided the certainty to meet the challenge of delivering electrification above industry standards, significantly reducing the overall project costs by circa 35%.

KISL’s winning rail project team was recognised for successfully eliminating defects within the 35-wire run footprint, removing 150 known issues, and improving asset resilience to weather events, resulting in fewer incidents.

Key benefits included the elimination of 82 full 24-hour road closures, removing over two million vehicle route diversion journeys and over one million pedestrian journey diversions.

The innovative approach removed 984 local authority applications and £247k in traffic management costs, with overall cost savings against the original project benchmark exceeding £7m.

The judges’ citation, read out on the night, said “This impressive approach to a bread-and-butter renewal challenges norms and standards, and in short brings overhead line fitment and renewal into the 21st century.”

Collecting the award on behalf of KISL’s rail business, Neil Lindley said “This is a fantastic achievement on a complex OLE scheme, showcasing KISL’s capabilities in driving innovation onto projects to support the decarbonisation of the UK’s rail network.

Everyone connected with this project from inception to completion was instrumental in tonight’s success and should be extremely proud of their contribution.”
